We Are a Dedicated Group Of UK-Based Neonatologists
About Us

At NeoFOCUS-UK (Neonatal Functional Haemodynamics and Point of Care Ultrasound)

We are a dedicated group of UK-based neonatologists, specialising in the application of functional echocardiography and point of care ultrasound (POCUS) in neonatal care.

Our mission is to enhance diagnostic precision and support pathophysiology-based neonatal management in term and preterm infants. With growing evidence supporting the benefits of POCUS, we aim to overcome barriers to training and governance in the UK neonatology community

Why NeoFocus-UK

International surveys consistently reveal the desire among neonatologists to incorporate POCUS into their clinical practice. In the UK, our recent survey indicated a significant interest in learning these valuable skills.

While POCUS and echocardiography training programs are well-established for adult and paediatric critical care, there are no accepted standards for training, accreditation, or application of these techniques in neonatal settings in the UK

Our Expertise

NeoFOCUS-UK comprises members with internationally recognized expertise in neonatal lung ultrasound, neonatal echocardiography, functional haemodynamic assessment, and ultrasound confirmation of central line position. Many of our members contribute to international training courses, teaching, and guideline development through their involvement with organizations such as the Neonatal Hemodynamic Research Centre (NHRC), European Society of Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care, and the CACTUS (Children’s Acute US) POCUS courses within the UK.

CPD & Peer Review: We host weekly online educational meetings attended by neonatal trainees, consultants, and international collaborators. These sessions include expert presentations, case discussions, and challenging cases where POCUS was helpful to guide bedside management

Our Activities!!

Since early 2022, NeoFOCUS-UK has been actively involved in several key activities to promote high-quality training and delivery of neonatal POCUS and integrated haemodynamic approaches in the UK
